Ep 346 Are We Losing the Art of Connection? with Jonathan Bradshaw, Creator of Meetology® & Founder of the Meetology® Social Club; Brighton, England, UK

The most powerful business connection may still be the one made face to face.

Today I spoke with Jonathan Bradshaw, creator of Meetology, about the science behind face-to-face human interaction and why it still matters in an increasingly digital world. We explored the behavioral science behind empathy, trust, influence, persuasion, and creativity, and why these qualities can be stronger when people meet in person. Jonathan shared research showing the significant impact of face-to-face interaction on business relationships and explained why leaders should think carefully about when technology is truly creating efficiency, and when it may be replacing something more valuable.

We also discussed vulnerability in leadership, creating emotionally safe workplaces, the impact of loneliness and remote work, and why companies need to teach their teams how to interact effectively with colleagues, clients, and customers.

Here are the highlights:

● Face-to-face interaction builds stronger connections. Research shows that empathy, trust, likability, influence, persuasion, and creativity can all benefit from meeting in person.

● Technology should complement human interaction. Digital tools provide tremendous benefits, but leaders should consider when replacing an in-person interaction with technology may come at a greater cost.

● Vulnerability can strengthen leadership. Creating emotionally safe environments and allowing leaders to interact with employees as humans can build stronger relationships and healthier cultures.

● Human interaction is a skill that can be practiced. Teams can become more confident and effective by experimenting with different approaches to communicating, connecting, and interacting with others.

● Curiosity is the foundation of trust. Asking thoughtful questions, listening carefully, and following up on something another person shared can create stronger connections and lay the groundwork for trust.
