Ep 341 Stop Solving Every Problem with Rajesh Nagjee, Founder of Freedom OS™; Dubai, United Arab Emirates
What if feeling depleted as a leader isn’t a sign that something is wrong, but a signal that it’s time to develop new ways of leading?
In this episode, I spoke with Rajesh Nagjee about what happens when successful founders and CEOs become the chief problem solver for everything in their business. We explored why leaders can feel depleted as their companies grow, the difference between capability and competency, and why each new stage of business requires leaders to develop new skills.
We also talked about decision fatigue in an AI-driven world, the importance of moving beyond an “either/or” mindset, and how combining human expertise with AI can create a powerful new way of working. Rajesh shared a practical approach to navigating difficult periods through what he calls “atomic tasks,” focusing on what can be accomplished in the next hour rather than becoming overwhelmed by everything that could go wrong.
Here are the highlights:
● Success can create a new leadership problem. As businesses grow, founders can become the chief problem solver, creating exhaustion, sleepless nights, and a feeling that they have to carry everything themselves.
● Every new level requires new competencies. Growing a business means moving into a new “grade,” and the skills that created success at one stage may not be enough to reach the next one.
● AI doesn’t have to be an either-or decision. The most powerful approach may be combining human experience, expertise, and judgment with AI’s ability to process information and accelerate work.
● Focus on the next atomic task. During periods of uncertainty or crisis, concentrating on what can be accomplished in the next hour can create the momentum needed to open up the next possibility.
● Business success and personal fulfillment both matter. A healthy “dollar P&L” is important, but fulfillment, relationships, joy, and a sense of belonging provide the energy needed to keep moving through difficult seasons.
About the guest:
Rajesh Nagjee built his first company, burned out running it, and nearly lost everything. That breaking point became the foundation for everything he teaches today. Now a CEO mentor and business physicist, Rajesh helps scale-stage founder-CEOs escape the Founder Bottleneck: when a company grows sophisticated enough to scale yet still depends on the founder for decisions and operational stability. He calls this underlying dynamic the Velocity Crisis, when systems evolve faster than the founder’s internal operating capacity. To solve this, Rajesh created CEO Freedom OS™, a leadership architecture that removes structural founder dependency without sacrificing control.
